A sign framed by a twisted three-strand rope made with the Rope modelling tool. The rope loops round each corner, crossing itself over and under like a knot. The floor inside is carved down with 3D roughing and finishing, then the name is V-carved into it and the sign is cut out. 400 x 260 x 22 mm; edit the name on the Text form.
One of the example projects that come with Carvio: the free trial opens it, and a licence lets you save your own files, G-code and jobs. Open it, look at how each toolpath is set up, then change it into your own.
Tools, speeds and feeds are examples. They were chosen so the preview looks right, not for any machine or material: pick your own tools and rates before you cut (the project notes say the same).

Project notes
Rope border sign
A sign for a boathouse or a cabin, 400 x 260 mm in 22 mm oak, with a rope border.
- The rope is one component made with Model > Rope... from the Rope border vector: a closed border with a three-quarter loop at each corner, so the vector crosses itself four times. The Rope tool lays three twisted strands along it (14 mm wide, 7 mm high, 34 mm lay) and, with Crossings: Alternate (knot), the rope goes over, then under, all the way round. Open the Rope form with the vector picked to try other strand counts or twists, or use Pick Crossings to choose which pass goes on top at each corner.
- Rough rope and floor clears everything inside the Carving boundary down to the rope's base with a 6 mm end mill; Finish rope runs a 3.175 mm ball nose over it at 45 degrees.
- The lettering is V-carved into the floor (the V-Carve starts at the floor's depth) with a flat bottom cleared by a 3.175 mm end mill. Double-click the text to change the name.
- Cut out sign frees the sign with six tabs.
Tools, speeds and feeds are examples
The tools, feed rates, plunge rates, spindle speeds and pass depths in this project are examples only. They were chosen so the toolpaths look right in the preview, not for any particular machine or material. Before you cut, open each toolpath, pick a tool from your own Tool Database and set the rates your machine and material need. Check the material size and thickness in Job Setup too, and the post processor in Save Toolpaths.
