A moulded picture frame from one board: the moulding (bead, cove, flat and ogee) is a Two Rail Sweep of a cross section between the outer and inner rails, with a small half-round bead extruded along the flat. 3D roughing and finishing, then the window and the frame are cut out. 300 x 240 x 20 mm.
One of the example projects that come with Carvio: the free trial opens it, and a licence lets you save your own files, G-code and jobs. Open it, look at how each toolpath is set up, then change it into your own.
Tools, speeds and feeds are examples. They were chosen so the preview looks right, not for any machine or material: pick your own tools and rates before you cut (the project notes say the same).

Project notes
Picture frame
A picture frame 260 x 200 mm in 20 mm cherry, with a 180 x 120 mm window.
- Frame moulding is a Two Rail Sweep (Modeling tab): the Frame section vector beside the material, swept between the Outer rail and the Inner rail. The section is drawn from the outer edge (left) to the window (right): a round bead, a cove, a flat and an ogee down to the lip. Scale height with rail distance is off, so the corners keep the drawn heights. Edit the section and sweep again for a different moulding.
- Bead is an Extrude of the small half-round Bead section along the Bead line, set on the flat of the moulding.
- Rough moulding and Finish moulding carve it (6 mm end mill, then a 3.175 mm ball nose); Cut out window cuts the window through without tabs (screw or tape the middle down, or turn tabs on), then Cut out frame frees the frame with six tabs.
Tools, speeds and feeds are examples
The tools, feed rates, plunge rates, spindle speeds and pass depths in this project are examples only. They were chosen so the toolpaths look right in the preview, not for any particular machine or material. Before you cut, open each toolpath, pick a tool from your own Tool Database and set the rates your machine and material need. Check the material size and thickness in Job Setup too, and the post processor in Save Toolpaths.
Tools used
- End Mill 6mm · ⌀ 6
- Ball Nose 3.175mm (1/8") · ⌀ 3.175
