A box lid with a V-bit heart inlay: the female pocket in a walnut lid on sheet 1, the mirrored male piece on sheet 2 to cut from a maple board, both with a 60 degree V-bit and an end mill clearing the flats. An engraved border line and a tabbed cut-out finish the lid. 150 x 150 x 12 mm.
One of the example projects that come with Carvio: the free trial opens it, and a licence lets you save your own files, G-code and jobs. Open it, look at how each toolpath is set up, then change it into your own.
Tools, speeds and feeds are examples. They were chosen so the preview looks right, not for any machine or material: pick your own tools and rates before you cut (the project notes say the same).

Project notes
Inlay box lid
A 130 x 130 mm lid for a keepsake box, 12 mm thick, with a heart inlaid in a lighter wood.
- Sheet 1, Lid: Heart inlay (female) pockets the heart 4 mm deep with a 60 degree V-bit, a 3.175 mm end mill clearing the flat floor first. Engrave border traces the rounded border 0.6 mm deep, and Cut out lid frees the lid with four tabs.
- Sheet 2, Inlay piece: the same heart, mirrored, cut as the male piece from a maple board with the same two tools. Glue it into the pocket, let it dry, then saw and sand the back flush.
- The gaps between the two pieces are on the Inlay form; the Inlay Wizard button at the top of that form checks the fit and suggests settings for other tools.
Tools, speeds and feeds are examples
The tools, feed rates, plunge rates, spindle speeds and pass depths in this project are examples only. They were chosen so the toolpaths look right in the preview, not for any particular machine or material. Before you cut, open each toolpath, pick a tool from your own Tool Database and set the rates your machine and material need. Check the material size and thickness in Job Setup too, and the post processor in Save Toolpaths.
